OH...I HAVE BEEN LIVING IN PA. SINCE 1971... AND HERE I`M KNOWN AS "RL"..BUT I DO ANSWER TO "RUDOLPH". WHEN I HEAR IT..I KNOW ITS:"TARHILL FAMILY". GOD BLESS..
My reason for leaving Wilmington was not for any other reason than unemployment. There were no paying jobs for what I wanted to do. My mos in the military was business adminstration. Maybe for some...but not for me. My mortgage was only $54 a month....but I had a problem with that. Its been such a long time, I even ask myself" How?". Well...got an invitation from my mom to move to New Jersey and an offer to work at General Mortors. They made me an offer I couldn`t refuse. Well...just to make a long story short...after being in New Jersey for about 5 months...I found my family and I...Homeless! A friend that I knew from wilmington, had moved into the same complex where my family and I had moved in( with my mom and her new husband). He gave me and my family his one bedroom apt...and he moved in with his girlfriend. His name is Eddie Stukes..( from the Northside ). I could never repay this brother!!! God bless him! Enough of that chapter!
Attended University Of Penn....became a graphic artist! Started a business " J`FAM Advertising Distributors" Inc. Awarded contracts for over 10 Dominoes Pizza establishments, contracts of all " Cluck U Chickin`s " thru out " Philly...Expand for more
". Many other contracts went along. Employed many...plus contract with school board...graded high school Jr. and Sr`s that were on The Student Work Program. Too much in this chapter of my life to list here. Will mention that I was the first African-American to have an advertising company in the county that I lived.
More chapters to follow.
Here in PA,..thinking of my youth in Wilmington! I recall many events and happenings! One that really sticks in my mind is the first time I thought I was a man! I was 16! Keep in mind, I said: "Thought "! My buddies and I somehow ended up trying a bottle of a cheap wine called"Roma Rocket"! Well,..even though my dad had a club on the northside called:"House of Blue Lights",..I had never taken a drink of any drinks that contained alcohol! Well, under pressure from my so-called buddies,...I took a drink,..maybe 2 or 3. I got really drunk!! I think I was so drunk, I think it scared my buddies! Do you know what they did to me? They took me home,..lean me against my front door,..knocked on my door...and ran!! I was so drunk, I couldn`t protest! Well,..my mom came to the door and asked:"Who is it"? "Me mom"..I said! I was drunk,..but I remembered. My mom open the door,..took a deep look at me and said:"Boy,..whats wrong with you"? I replied.."Im drunk momma"!! My mom put her arm around my waist and said:"Come on boy, Im putting you to bed"! Well,..thats what my mom did!! Then she returned to her room(which was next to mines). As I layed there thinking many thoughs,..I heard my mom crying in her room! The one thing I never wanted to do was make my mom cry!! So that night(even though I was drunk), I made a promise to myself that I would never take another drink, and make my mom cry!!! I kept my promise! Never made my mom cry, and the only time I had an alcohol drink, was the day I came home on leave from the Army! It was one drink...a Strawberry Daiquiri! Even now when Im out with associates,..thats my drink of choice! More life stories and happenings to follow!
